Strings: I’m sure you’ve heard that you should change your strings berofe recording. It’s a very good idea, and in most of cases true, but often causes some problems.
Because of these things, it’s probably the best if you change your strings 5-10 days before the recording, and make sure they’re “played in”. If it’s possible, please don’t use steel strings, use nickel strings, unless you’re absolutely prefer the steel ones.
The instrument: If there are any technical issue with your guitar, get it fixed before the session. Most usual problems can be swithces, jack outs, potenciometers.
Tuning, intonation: It’s very important to tune properly, and better if the guitars intonation is right. If you would like to know more about guitar intonation and about precise tuning methods, visit the links below:

Effects, pedals, and other toys: 99 percent you will be asked not to use these. Effects like chorus, delay, etc. can be easily made after the record, and can be controlled better. The only exception might be vintage or very special effects.
Pickups, amplifiers: If you have active pickup, put new battery into your guitar. If youexperience any kind of problem with your intrument, amplifier, please get it fixed before the recording session. If you want to adjust the perfect guitar sound, please follow this very simple guideline: adjust your tone when your ears are at the same height as the amplifier. This is the only way to achieve a good tone. Remember that the microphone will face your amp.
